With Thomas Südhof, the Einstein Foundation and the BIH have a Nobel prize laureate among their ranks. The neuroscientist received the award for the discovery of transport processes in cells. After studying medicine, among others at Harvard University, he completed his doctorate at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry. Since 2008 Südhof is Professor of Cell Physiology at the University of Stanford. In his Berlin project, he will focus on the question of how neurons in the brain communicate and how this communication is disrupted in diseases.

Einstein-Questionnaire

Please close your eyes for a moment and think about your research project. What do you see at first?
First I would think of music.

What do you do first thing in the morning when you arrive at your workplace, and why?
It depends on the day of the week. On wednesdays, and as I see today is a wednesday, I have a day off.

Please name three things that you spontaneously connect to Albert Einstein!
1. Relativity theory
2. Jewish Germanness
3. Genius

With whom would you like to exchange your workplace for one day, and what would you do then?
With a conductor of an orchestra, but an orchestra that manages to perform without a conductor.
