With Swiss physicist Andreas Riedo the Department of Physics of Freie Universität Berlin has received superior reinforcement in search of life outside Earth. After earning his doctoral degree summa cum laude in the field of "Space Research and Planetary Sciences" at the University of Bern, Switzerland, Riedo was working on implementing a novel mass spectrometry technology. While doing so, his research was laying groundwork for the analysis of specific biomarkers in a planetary simulation chamber. Strong research focus was set on nature and stability of certain organic molecules and potential biosignatures that indicate the existence of life outside this planet.
