Tobias Kümmerle
The global loss of species is alarming because ecosystems are losing many of their functions as a result. One of the greatest threats to biodiversity is land-use change. As an Einstein Junior Fellow, environmental scientist Tobias Kümmerle from the Institute of Geography at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin is investigating the effects of different land use scenarios on biodiversity. He is particularly interested in what landscapes look like that harmonise species conservation and agriculture.
