Over the course of five years, 24 students from both countries meet annually for a summer school, sometimes at the Department of Islamic Studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, sometimes at the Institute for Islamic Studies at Freie Universität Berlin. Discussions focus on the Arab pre-modern period, which is examined through an interdisciplinary approach, be it history, religion, philosophy, art history or archaeology. The Summer School also aims to promote regular exchanges between the two universities.
