We adore Berlin. For 15 years, our mission has been to fund pioneering academics across disciplines and institutions and promote Berlin as an internationally connected science and research hub. The Einstein Foundation Berlin officially took up work on May 11, 2009.
Funding is awarded across disciplines – from the antiquities to zoology – to innovative projects, whether they explore the development of new musical instruments or contribute to the fight against cancer. There are no quotas set for individual institutions or research areas. Our Academic Freedom program lends support to researchers and scientists whose lives and security are at risk in their home countries or whose work is constrained.
Ensuring quality of research is one of our key priorities. Our independent research board comprising 15 leading scientists and researchers selects outstanding projects, individuals, and research clusters. Five Berlin-based institutions are eligible to apply for funding: Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Technische Universität Berlin, Universität der Künste, and Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin.
We are keen to engage. After all, science and research thrive best when they are given a public stage – which is where our various event formats, our podcast #AskDifferent, and our journal ALBERT come into play.
