Our Scientific Commission is on the move: after many years of dedicated service, we are bidding farewell to esteemed members – while at the same time welcoming new brilliant minds to strengthen our ranks.
Our special thanks go to Prof. Dr. Falko Langenhorst, who has led the Commission for many years with expertise, foresight, and great commitment. Under his leadership, the Commission has significantly shaped the funding decisions of our foundation. Already at the spring meeting, he handed over the baton to Prof. Dr. Gabriele Spilker, who was unanimously elected as the new Chair – congratulations!
The position of Deputy Chair will be taken over by Prof. Dr. Barbara Albert, Rector of the University of Duisburg-Essen. She succeeds Prof. Dr. Bertram Brenig, to whom we remain deeply grateful for his dedicated involvement and support.
After many years of valuable contributions to the “WiKo,” we also bid farewell to Prof. Dr. Jutta Kunz-Drolshagen, Prof. Dr. Thomas Lengauer, Prof. Dr. Stefan Offermanns, and Prof. Dr. Ulrike von Hirschhausen. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all of them for their outstanding collaboration and their important contributions to the work of our foundation.
At the same time, we are delighted to welcome seven new members to the Commission, who will enrich our work with their expertise:
- Prof. Dr. Tobias Erb (Max Planck Institute for Terrestrial Microbiology, Marburg)
- Prof. Dr. Sebastian Fehrler (Economics, University of Bremen)
- Prof. Dr. Ingrid Fleming (Institute for Vascular Signalling, Goethe University Frankfurt)
- Prof. Dr. Ralf Ludwig (Applied Physical Geography, LMU Munich)
- Prof. William Marx (Comparative Literature, Collège de France, Paris)
- Prof. Dr. Dieter Meschede (Senior Professor of Physics, University of Bonn)
- Prof. Dr. Gunnar Rätsch (Machine Learning, ETH Zurich)
We very much look forward to working together and to the new perspectives they will bring – a warm welcome!
