What does the Einstein Foundation support?
The researchers work on many important topics:

  • They look for new ways to fight diseases like cancer.

  • They study how tiny particles behave.

Some of them have won important prizes.
Three researchers have won the Nobel Prize. A Nobel Prize is one of the highest awards for scientists.


How does the Einstein Foundation support research?
The Einstein Foundation gives more than 20 million euros every year for research.
The money is used for different things:

  • Projects where many institutions work together,
  • Jobs for very good scientists,
  • Programs for young researchers,
  • Special offers at universities,
  • Networks with researchers from other countries.


Who decides who gets money?
People who know a lot read the applications.
They choose the best projects.
The leaders of the foundation decide who gets money.
So far, more than 1,000 researchers have received money.
Some of them work together, this is called a "center."

 

Who can ask for support?
Universities in Berlin can ask for money.
These are:

  • Freie Universität Berlin,
  • Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin,
  • Technical University Berlin,
  • Berlin University of the Arts,
  • Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin.

The Hebrew University of Jerusalem can also join.

 

Why is the foundation called "Einstein"?
The foundation is called "Einstein Foundation" because it honors Albert Einstein.
Albert Einstein was an important scientist.
He was important for Berlin and for the whole world.

 

Why is the Einstein Foundation Berlin special?
The Einstein Foundation can decide alone how it works.
It helps especially the researchers in Berlin.
This is good for all people in Berlin.
