Preparation module phase
Climate change is a pressing global challenge that demands swift and comprehensive action from all stakeholders. However, there is a significant discrepancy between the stated intentions and the actual behaviors of individuals and groups regarding climate policies. Many people also resist or oppose climate policies that have implications for their economic, social, or cultural situations or identities.
The Einstein Center Climate Change: Public Policy of Human Settlements (ECCC), currently in the preparation module phase, is a research initiative that aims to develop and deliver systematic and integrative solutions that enable people to adapt to climate change and to implement local greenhouse gas mitigation and ecological transformation measures that can have positive spin-offs for well-being and health. The ECCC concentrates on the local context of the two adjacent German states of Berlin and Brandenburg, where there are diverse realities and interests among the urban and rural contexts they respectively represent.
The ECCC focuses on four research areas: three of these concentrate on services that people need, such as Shelter, Mobility, and Health and Well-being, and one area focuses on shaping policies and governance that support these services.
The ECCC aims to provide advice on climate action for cities by combining different disciplines. It will use economic analysis, agent-based modeling, machine learning, and big data to evaluate policy instruments for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the transport and building sectors.
