The U.S. National Academy of Sciences/Washington has entered into a partnership with the Einstein Foundation Berlin for the Einstein Foundation Award for Promoting Quality in Research. The international prize is presented annually to recognize outstanding researchers and institutions whose work helps “to advance the quality and robustness of research findings — whether they are breaking new ground, using and testing innovative methods, or collecting and sharing their data in novel ways.”

Biochemist Rudolf Zechner and his team have discovered an enzyme that is a key factor in the breakdown of lipid (triglycerides) in fat cells. In Berlin, he has taken on the task of deactivating this enzyme in order to fight cardiac insufficiency and heart failure.

Following a funding recommendation by the Einstein Foundation and a decision by the Board of Directors of the Berlin University Alliance, Prof. Dr Stefan Flasche took up the Einstein-BUA Professorship for Infection Dynamics and Global Health at Charité Berlin on 1 January 2024.
