The Einstein Foundation Berlin is pleased to once again support the research of Professor Surjo R. Soekadar through an Einstein Professorship. The internationally renowned neuroscientist is considered a pioneer in the field of clinical neurotechnology.

At its July meeting, the Board of the Einstein Foundation Berlin approved new funding totaling €9.6 million. The focus is on topics such as the mental health of young people, the role of soils and bodies of water in the climate system, and alternative forms of economic planning.

PixelQuality has—together with the international consortium QUAREP-LiMi—played a key role in the introduction of new reporting standards for light and fluorescence microscopy data in four prestigious Nature Portfolio journals.

The Einstein Foundation Berlin welcomes Prof Dr Cornelia Woll, President of the Hertie School, as a new member of its Executive Board. This appointment by the Foundation Council as of 1 January 2025 also marks the departure of the Deputy Chair of the Board, Prof Dr Dorothea Kübler (WZB).

For the fourth time, the Einstein Foundation Berlin honours the advancement of research quality: The Individual Award goes to Dutch microbiologist and whistleblower Elisabeth Bik. PubPeer receives the Institutional Award and the Early Career Award goes to PixelQuality.

The U.S. National Academy of Sciences/Washington has entered into a partnership with the Einstein Foundation Berlin for the Einstein Foundation Award for Promoting Quality in Research. The international prize is presented annually to recognize outstanding researchers and institutions whose work helps “to advance the quality and robustness of research findings — whether they are breaking new ground, using and testing innovative methods, or collecting and sharing their data in novel ways.”   

The funded projects look into sustainable batteries, better treatment options for stroke patients, and childhood cancer treatment. 

How are societies changing as a result of immigration, aging, and new forms of work and social relationships? And what opportunities, but also challenges, arise from these changes? The new Einstein Center Population Diversity aims to answer these questions. It brings together researchers from various Berlin institutions to study demographic change through the lens of the family.

Following a funding recommendation by the Einstein Foundation and a decision by the Board of Directors of the Berlin University Alliance, Prof. Dr Stefan Flasche took up the Einstein-BUA Professorship for Infection Dynamics and Global Health at Charité Berlin on 1 January 2024.
